Why Did Ghislaine Maxwell Leave Safety of France for Arrest in Us?

Maxwell was born in France to a French mother. France does not extradite its citizens

It’s the question which many are asking right now: why did this former colleague of notorious sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein leave the relative safety of France, in effect, voluntarily allowing herself to be arrested in the United States? Once again, there is a lot more to this story than the mainstream media is letting on.

At a news conference on Thursday, acting US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Audrey Strauss, charged Maxwell with playing a role in the “sexual exploitation and abuse” of multiple underage girls by Jeffrey Epstein, according to a court filing.

Strauss also stated that Ghislaine Maxwell had “repeatedly lied” about her involvement in Epstein’s affairs, and that the truth was “almost unspeakable.” Indeed it was, most notably for Epstein himself, who mysteriousLy committed suicide whilst under the watchful eye of the federal prison system.

Strauss added that British socialite Maxwell had “enticed young girls, got them to trust her, then delivered them into the trap that she and Epstein had set for them.”

She was arrested by the FBI Thursday at a luxury property located in Bradford, New Hampshire.

Maxwell, 58, and the daughter of newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell, has denied any wrongdoing and dismisses the claims against as “absolute rubbish.”

Why Did She Leave France?

Ever since Epstein’s untimely death in August last year, she has maintained a low public profile, effectively living ‘on the road’, jet-setting between properties in multiple countries in an effort to avoid the media and law enforcement.

The question remains why Maxwell would have suddenly handed herself over to US authorities now. The answer to that question may very well have something to do with her friend Prince Andrew, who has been in a six-month standoff with the FBI who have wanted to interview him over his relations with Epstein and to answer to victims’ accusations of under-age sexual abuse. Could Maxwell have been summoned by the powers that be in order to provide a buffer against any further overtures by authorities towards the British Royal Family?

At the moment, the press have renewed their campaign pressure on the 60 year-old Prince Andrew to ‘stop making excuses’ and now tell the FBI everything he knows about Epstein and his former girlfriend and associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

Gloria Allred, a US lawyer based in Los Angeles who is representing 16 accusers of Epstein, has also publicly stated the Queen’s son must ‘contact the FBI immediately.’

Maxwell, who was born in France to a French mother, has been hiding out in a luxury flat on Avenue Matignon near the Champs Élysées in Paris, located just a few minutes from Epstein’s former apartment on Avenue Foch, which was raided by French police in September 2019. As France does not extradite its citizens, it was believed that she was there in order to avoid being sent to the United States.

Her move seems counter intuitive. Was she offered some kind of immunity deal through back channels? Will the media’s legal spectacle create a sufficient distraction to protect some of Epstein’s high-profile friends, including the likes of Bill Gates?

Are there legal backroom maneuvers afoot? One possible clue is here, also reported today:

Attorneys for alleged Jeffrey Epstein “sex slave” Virginia Roberts Giuffre were ordered Wednesday to destroy evidence from her case against Ghislaine Maxwell — as lawyer Alan Dershowitz was also denied access to the potentially explosive information.

Manhattan federal Judge Loretta Preska said she was “troubled” to learn during oral arguments last week that Giuffre’s lawyers, from the firm of Cooper & Kirk, had been given sealed records from her since-settled suit against Maxwell, who Giuffre claims recruited her to have sex with Epstein and his pals while she was underage.

This means that some potentially incriminating evidence against Maxwell may now be removed from the picture, something that could strengthen her own defense and give her lawyers a stronger hand to play in their client denying any wrongdoing in the Epstein case.

While her holding pattern in France was tenable, this did not mean that other pressures weren’t building in the background. According to Tatler Magazine:

“An unnamed source told the Sun: ‘Ghislaine is moving locations every month to keep private investigators off her tail and is staying at the residences of trusted colleagues and contacts. She wants to remain in France for as long as she can to take advantage of extradition laws and has a huge network of contacts willing to keep her hidden.

‘Under French law anyone born on French soil is safe from extradition to another country, regardless of the alleged crime. It doesn’t mean she won’t be prosecuted for her links to Epstein but if she does end up facing charges it will be in France and not the US.’

Maxwell was said to have been seen out in public on a number of occasions, wearing a scarf around her face to remain undetected. She reportedly walked the streets of the upmarket part of Paris, near the glamorous Market restaurant and Le Berkeley and Le Bristol hotels.

A local source was quoted as stating: ‘She was here just before France announced its coronavirus lockdown. She rarely went out, but when she did she wore a large patterned blanket which she pulled tightly around her face and draped across her shoulders. She clearly didn’t want to be recognised and was able to blend in. But she was wearing her distinctive gold sovereign ring on her left hand and a larger, glitzier ring on her right.’

There was another interesting detail in this report:

“Other sources reportedly claimed to have spotted Maxwell walking away from the Israeli Embassy.”

This detail is interesting because Maxwell is also the daughter of “Israeli Super Spy” Robert Maxwell, and so it’s possible that Tel Aviv could also have been a flight destination.

Tying these two details together is no mere conspiracy theory, rather, it is based on a series of inconvenient facts. Her links to Israeli intelligence also come into play with accusations that Jeffrey Epstein was involved in blackmailing political and business elites. Certainly, the prominent feature of Ghislaine as Epstein’s chief procurer of females for his harem – should raise a strong suspicion that this may indeed be the case. Add to this, two other Epstein VIPs whose names were visible on the flight manifests of the Lolita Express to his private island of Little St. James – former Israeli PM Ehud Barack, alongside US President Bill Clinton, and others.

It’s worth noting here that it was President Clinton who secured an eleventh hour pardon of convicted criminal financier and Clinton associate Marc Rich. In fact, it was former Mossad chief, Shabtai Shavit, who urged Clinton to pardon Rich. Was there any blackmail involved in that transaction? Previous to that, according to claims unearthed in the 2014 book, Clinton Inc: The Audacious Rebuilding of a Political Machine, where phone sex conversations between Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky were wiretapped (circa 1997-98) and used as a blackmail against the White House by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu was using intercepted phone sex conversations between the president and Lewinsky to force the release of American Jonathan Pollard, who had been caught spying on behalf of the Israelis. Clinton and Netanyahu’s desperate plea to release Pollard but was denied at the time by CIA director George Tenet.

‘Epstein was Untouchable’

The fact that large sums of money have been moving back and forth between Epstein and Maxwell indicates that they may have been involved in a number of highly illicit activities. From the recent Grand Jury discovery:

In an article written for the Daily Beast, reporter Vickie Ward noted how when former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta cut Epstein his ‘sweetheart’ plea deal back in 2007, he had also been told to “back off, that Epstein was above his pay grade.”

“I was told Epstein ‘belonged to intelligence’ and to leave it alone,” said Acosta, who was recently forced to resign as Trump’s Secretary of Labor. Ward explained this potential game-changer here:

Epstein’s name, I was told, had been raised by the Trump transition team when Alexander Acosta, the former U.S. attorney in Miami who’d infamously cut Epstein a non-prosecution plea deal back in 2007, was being interviewed for the job of labor secretary. The plea deal put a hard stop to a separate federal investigation of alleged sex crimes with minors and trafficking.

“Is the Epstein case going to cause a problem [for confirmation hearings]?” Acosta had been asked. Acosta had explained, breezily, apparently, that back in the day he’d had just one meeting on the Epstein case. He’d cut the non-prosecution deal with one of Epstein’s attorneys because he had “been told” to back off, that Epstein was above his pay grade. “I was told Epstein ‘belonged to intelligence’ and to leave it alone,” he told his interviewers in the Trump transition, who evidently thought that was a sufficient answer and went ahead and hired Acosta. (The Labor Department had no comment when asked about this.)

The question then remains: which intelligence? The answer may be classified, so we may never know the full story.

Still, we can expect more details to come to the fore through this process.
